Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 4 May 2010, the provisions of the Gas Amendment Act 2006 that are not already in force. Those provisions are sections 4, 5, 6(2) to (5), 7, 10 to 12, and 15 to 18.

The provisions being brought into force—

• require owners and operators of gas supply systems to have safety management systems:

• create new offences and an infringement offence regime:

• make associated technical changes.

The provisions brought into force by this order come into force at the same time as the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations 2010, which replace the Gas Regulations 1993.
