Pursuant to sections 46(d) and 101(1)(g) of the Defence Act 1990, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.

1 Title
These regulations are the Defence Amendment Regulations 2011.
2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on the 28th day after the date of their notification in the Gazette.
3 Principal regulations amended
These regulations amend the Defence Regulations 1990.
4 Compensation for loss of or damage to kit
Regulation 8(3) is revoked.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations amend the Defence Regulations 1990. The amendment comes into force on the 28th day after the regulations are notified in the Gazette.
The amendment revokes a provision prohibiting the Chief of Defence Force from paying compensation for any loss of or damage to the service kit or personal effects of a member of the Armed Forces in certain circumstances. The amendment enables the Chief of Defence Force, at his or her discretion and in accordance with the regulations, to replace an item or to pay compensation or reimbursement for it.
