This order, which comes into force on 18 July 2022, declares the inhibitor substances listed in the Schedule to be agricultural compounds for the purposes of the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997 (the Act) if they are used for the purposes of mitigating the adverse impacts of an agricultural activity on the environment, on sustainability, or on climate change.

The effect of this order is to regulate inhibitor substances as agricultural compounds to manage any risk to public health, trade in primary products, animal welfare, or biosecurity associated with the use of those substances.

On 18 July 2022, amendments to the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (Exemptions and Prohibited Substances) Regulations 2011 also come into force. Those amendments permit inhibitor substances that are in use on the commencement date to be imported, manufactured, sold, or used as agricultural compounds without registration under section 21 or 27 of the Act for a transitional period of 2 years starting on the commencement date.
