Pursuant to section 1(3) of the Social Security Amendment Act 1986, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

1 Title

This order may be cited as the Social Security Amendment Act Commencement Order 1986.

2 Commencement of Part 2 of Social Security Amendment Act 1986

The provisions of Part 2 of the Social Security Amendment Act, except section 22, shall come into force on the 1st day of October 1986.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but it is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order brings into force, on 1 October 1986, Part 2 of the Social Security Amendment Act 1986 (except section 22 which came into force on the passing of the Act which, among other things,—

(a) provides for fees payable by the Department of Health for general medical services and specialist medical services to be fixed by regulations instead of being specified in the Social Security Act 1964:

(b) authorises the Minister of Health to make alternative arrangements for the provision of general medical services.
