Explanatory note

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.

These regulations, which come into force on 1 August 2012, amend the Friendly Societies and Credit Unions (Fees) Regulations 1992. The amendments—

• reduce the fee for an application to register a society under section 12 of the Friendly Societies and Credit Unions Act 1982 (the Act) from $400 to $250:

• increase the fee for an application to register a branch under section 14 or 19 of the Act from $100 to $250:

• reduce the fee for filing an annual return under section 70 of the Act from staged fees ranging from $160 to $2,000 to a single fee of $40:

• reduce the additional fee for each branch whose annual return is comprised in the annual return of a society under section 70(4) of the Act from $80 to $40:

• reduce the fee for an application to register a credit union under section 12 of the Act (as applied by section 104(1) of the Act) from $400 to $250:

• reduce the fee for filing an annual return under section 127 of the Act from $350 to $40.
