Pursuant to section 54 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, the Minister of Health, being satisfied of the matters set out in section 54(3) of that Act, gives the following notice.

1 Title
This notice is the Health Practitioners (Quality Assurance Activity—MidCentral DHB Medical Oncology Department) Notice 2014.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
3 Declaration of protected quality assurance activity
The MidCentral DHB Medical Oncology Department Quality Assurance Activity described in the Schedule is protected.
4 Revocation of this notice
This notice is revoked at the end of the period for which it remains in force under section 54(4) of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.
Schedule Description of MidCentral DHB Medical Oncology Department Quality Assurance Activity
1 Interpretation
In this schedule,—
activity means the MidCentral DHB Medical Oncology Department Quality Assurance Activity described in clause 4
participant means a health practitioner who is providing medical oncology services at Palmerston North Hospital.
2 Objective
The objective of the activity is to improve the practices and competence of participants by holding regular meetings to assess proposed treatment regimes for new patient referrals, and review cases resulting in treatment-related morbidity and death.
3 Information
The activity is based on information derived from participants.
4 Activity
The activity involves participants—
(a)
meeting once every 2 weeks in order to—
(i)
assess the proposed treatment regimes for new patient referrals:
(ii)
review cases resulting in treatment-related morbidity and death:
(iii)
discuss audits of treatment:
(iv)
review treatment guidelines:
(v)
make recommendations on how treatment guidelines can be improved:
(b)
updating treatment guidelines that are used for medical oncology procedures provided at Palmerston North Hospital.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice, which comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette, declares the MidCentral DHB Medical Oncology Department Quality Assurance Activity to be a protected quality assurance activity. The effect of this declaration is that—
any information that becomes known solely as a result of the activity is confidential; and
any documents brought into existence solely for the purposes of the activity are confidential; and
people who engage in the activity in good faith are immune from civil liability.
The protections afforded by this notice are subject to certain statutory exceptions. For example, this notice does not prohibit the disclosure of information that does not identify, either expressly or by implication, a particular individual.
Under section 54(4) of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, this notice remains in force for a period of 5 years after the date on which it is issued, unless it is revoked before then.
