Pursuant to regulations 9 and 10 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister for Primary Industries gives the following notice.

1 Title
This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata) Notice 2016.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
3 Revocation of this notice
This notice is revoked on 18 August 2021.
4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana
This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 8) 1999 (Gazette 1999, p 365).
5 Appointment cancelled
(1)
The Minister for Primary Industries has cancelled the appointment of Ihaia Briggs as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.
(2)
The cancellation took effect at the end of 18 August 2016.
6 Appointments
(1)
The Minister for Primary Industries has appointed—
(a)
Doug Timothy for a further term of 5 years as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana; and
(b)
David Manawatu for a term of 5 years as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.
(2)
The appointments—
(a)
took effect on 19 August 2016; and
(b)
expire at the end of 18 August 2021.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself at the end of 18 August 2021.
This notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata. The area/rohe moana is an area on Banks Peninsula from Koukourārata Harbour (Port Levy) to Pohatu (Flea Bay).
Notice is given of the following changes in the appointment of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:
the cancellation of 1 appointment:
1 new appointment:
1 reappointment.
At the request of Te Rūnanga o Koukourārata, the Minister for Primary Industries cancelled the appointment under regulation 10(1) of the regulations and made the appointments under regulations 9(5) and 10(2) of the regulations.
The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
