These regulations, which come into force on 1 July 2024, amend the Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Levy Rates and Information Requirements in Transitional Period) Regulations 2017 (the principal regulations).

The principal regulations provide for a levy to fund Fire and Emergency New Zealand during the transitional period between the passing of the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017 (the Act) and the coming into force of the Act’s new levy regime.

These regulations increase the rates of levy payable. For each motor vehicle the levy is increased from $8.45 to $9.53 per annum, and for all other property the levy is increased from 10.6 cents to 11.95 cents for every $100 of the amount for which the property is insured under a contract of fire insurance.

These regulations also delete a reference to section 2(6) of the Act, which was previously revoked.
