Pursuant to regulation 9(5) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.

1 Title
This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura) Notice 2018.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
3 Revocation of this notice
This notice is revoked on 3 May 2023.
4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana
This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 3(a) and (b) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 24) 2000 (Gazette 2000, p 3521), which is an area from the Clarence River to the Hurunui River, extending seaward to the 200-mile limit, as well as inland to the boundaries defined for Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura in the Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu (Declaration of Membership) Order 2001.
5 Reappointment
(1)
The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Keepa Te Rangihiwinui Timms (Major) for a further term as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.
(2)
The appointment—
(a)
took effect on 3 May 2018; and
(b)
expires at the end of 2 May 2023.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice is given under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura. The area/rohe moana is an area from the Clarence River to the Hurunui River, extending seaward to the 200-mile limit, as well as inland to the boundaries defined for Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura in the Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu (Declaration of Membership) Order 2001.
Notice is given of the reappointment of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the reappointment at the request of Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura.
The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.

1 General
