Notice

1 Title

This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Marine Area/Marine Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Wairewa) Notice 2018.

2 Commencement

This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

3 Revocation of this notice

This notice is revoked at the end of the date that is 5 years after its commencement.

4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana

This notice applies to the marine customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(d) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice 2002 (No. 37) (Gazette 2002, p 4486), which is an area seaward from the Hakatere River to Ounu Hau Point, at Pohatu, on Banks Peninsula. The area excludes Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) and Lake Forsyth.

5 Reappointment

(1)

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Iaean Cranwell for a further term of 5 years as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

(2)

The appointment—

(a)

took effect on 29 March 2018; and

(b)

expires at the end of 28 March 2023.

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its publication in the Gazette and is revoked 5 years after its commencement.

The notice relates to the marine customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Wairewa. The area/rohe moana is an area seaward from the Hakatere River to Ounu Hau Point, at Pohatu, on Banks Peninsula. The area excludes Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) and Lake Forsyth.

Notice is given of the reappointment of a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the reappointment at the request of Te Rūnanga o Wairewa.

The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.
