Pursuant to regulations 9 and 10 of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999, the Minister of Fisheries gives the following notice.
Notice
1 Title
This notice is the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Waihao) Notice 2019.
2 Commencement
This notice comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
3 Revocation of this notice
This notice is revoked at the end of 30 May 2023.
4 Customary food gathering area/rohe moana
This notice applies to the customary food gathering area/rohe moana defined by clause 2(c) of the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Notice (No. 10) 1999 (Gazette 1999, p 764). This is an area in Canterbury from the mouth of the Waitaki River to the mouth of the Pareora River, extending seaward 200 miles and inland to the boundaries defined for Te Rūnanga o Waihao in Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu (Declaration of Membership) Order 2001.
5 Appointments cancelled

The Minister of Fisheries has cancelled the appointment of the following people as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:

The cancellations took effect on 12 May 2018.
6 New appointments

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed the following people as Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana:

7 Reappointment

The Minister of Fisheries has appointed Hinerangi Ferrall-Heath for a further term as a Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the notice, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice is made under the Fisheries (South Island Customary Fishing) Regulations 1999 (the regulations). It comes into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette and revokes itself at the end of 30 May 2023.
The notice relates to a customary food gathering area/rohe moana of the tangata whenua represented by Te Rūnanga o Waihao. The area/rohe moana is an area in Canterbury proceeding from the mouth of the Waitaki River to the mouth of the Pareora River and extending seaward for 200 miles and inland to specified boundaries.
Notice is given of the appointment of 4 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki and the cancellation of the appointment of 2 Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for the area/rohe moana. The Minister of Fisheries made the appointments at the request of Te Rūnanga o Waihao.
The powers of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are set out in the regulations.

1 General
This is a consolidation of the Fisheries (Notification of Tāngata Tiaki/Kaitiaki for Area/Rohe Moana of Te Rūnanga o Waihao) Notice 2019 that incorporates the amendments made to the legislation so that it shows the law as at its stated date.
