Governor-General (Salary) Determination 2019: revoked, on 1 November 2020, by clause 5 of the Governor-General (Salary) Determination 2020 (LI 2020/265).

Pursuant to section 5 of the Governor-General Act 2010, and to the Remuneration Authority Act 1977, the Remuneration Authority makes the following determination (to which is appended an explanatory memorandum).

Determination

1 Title

This determination is the Governor-General (Salary) Determination 2019.

2 Commencement

This determination is deemed to have come into force on 1 November 2019.

3 Expiry

This determination expires on the close of 31 October 2020.

4 Salary of Governor-General

The salary payable to the Governor-General under section 5(1) of the Governor-General Act 2010 is $371,900 a year.

5 Revocation

The Governor-General (Salary) Determination 2018 (LI 2018/240) is revoked.

Explanatory memorandum

This memorandum is not part of the determination, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This determination, which is deemed to have come into force on 1 November 2019, sets a new rate for the salary of the Governor-General. The determination is made under the Governor-General Act 2010, which provides for the Governor-General’s salary to be determined from time to time by the Remuneration Authority. The Governor-General’s salary is not exempt from income tax and has been set on this basis.

In this determination, the Authority has adjusted the annual salary by approximately 1.7%, in line with the annual labour cost index for all public sector salary and wage rates (excluding the minimum wage and major pay settlements), as published in Statistics New Zealand’s Labour Market Statistics for the September 2019 quarter.

The determination replaces the Governor-General (Salary) Determination 2018, which expired on 31 October 2019. The making of the determination was delayed beyond the expiry of the previous determination in order to allow the Remuneration Authority to carry out preparatory work on the determination.

This determination expires on the close of 31 October 2020.
