Oranga Tamariki (Designation of Child Welfare and Protection Agencies) Regulations 2022

These regulations are made under section 447(1)(ga)(i) of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989—
(a)
on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council; and
(b)
the consultation required by that section having been undertaken.
Regulations
1 Title
These regulations are the Oranga Tamariki (Designation of Child Welfare and Protection Agencies) Regulations 2022.
2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on 14 July 2022.
3 Designation of child welfare and protection agencies
The following agencies are designated child welfare and protection agencies for the purposes of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989:
(a)
the Department of Internal Affairs:
(b)
the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment:
(c)
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade:
(d)
the New Zealand Customs Service.

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 14 July 2022, designate the following organisations as child welfare and protection agencies for the purposes of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 (the Act):
the Department of Internal Affairs:
the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment:
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade:
the New Zealand Customs Service.
The effect of that designation is that those organisations will be included in the information sharing regime set out in Part 2 of the Act, allowing them to receive and share information about the safety and well-being of children and young persons with other child welfare and protection agencies in certain circumstances.
Date of notification in Gazette: 16 June 2022.
These regulations are administered by Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children.
