District Courts Fees Amendment Regulations 2026

These regulations are made under section 230 of the District Court Act 2016 on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council.
Regulations
1 Title
These regulations are the District Courts Fees Amendment Regulations 2026.
2 Commencement
These regulations come into force on 1 July 2026.
3 Principal regulations
These regulations amend the District Courts Fees Regulations 2009.
4 Schedule 1 amended
(1)
In Schedule 1, item 3(b), replace “section 84M of the District Courts Act 1947”
with “section 161 of the District Court Act 2016”
.
(2)
In Schedule 1, item 13A, replace “section 79(5C) of the District Courts Act 1947”
with “section 139 of the District Court Act 2016”
.
(3)

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the regulations but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 1 July 2026, amend the District Courts Fees Regulations 2009 (the principal regulations) to increase the fees payable in respect of civil proceedings in the District Court. The fees include goods and services tax.
The fees are being increased by an inflation adjustment of 2.25%, which is based on a weighted average of the Labour Cost Index and the Producers Price Index. The new fees are rounded to the nearest dollar.
These regulations also update cross-references in Schedule 1 of the principal regulations.
