Proposed amendment

Sue Moroney, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Clause 2

In clause 2, after subclause (3) (page 8, after line 5), insert:

However, none of this Act will come into force until the day after Uber becomes fully compliant with all Transport Rule requirements regarding log books and driving hours as obliged of them under New Zealand law.

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 2 of the Land Transport Amendment Bill (No 2). It proposes to prevent the passing of this Bill until the ride-sharing service Uber is fully compliant with all Transport Rules regarding log books and driving hours, as obliged of them under New Zealand law. Cases of Uber drivers working over the maximum number of driving hours have been reported widely. This presents a serious danger to New Zealand drivers and any customers or passengers of Uber.
