Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill

Proposed amendment

Chris Penk, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Clause 5

In clause 5, in new section 55D, after paragraph (d) (page 3, after line 37), insert:


state that, after completion of all other requirements imposed by the rules of the political party for which the member of Parliament was elected to relating to selection of candidates, a candidate has been selected by that party for any by-election that may occur as a result of notice given under section 55A(3)(b).

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill. This amendment will ensure that before the removal of a member from a parliamentary political party, appropriate processes and preparation have taken place to select a candidate for any resulting by-election.
