Proposed amendment

Hon Gerry Brownlee, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Clause 8

In clause 8, new section 32F (page 5, after line 34), insert as new subsection (3):


Regulations made under section 33A must not exempt, or authorise the relevant Minister or the chief executive of MBIE to exempt, any particular case or any class or classes of cases solely on the basis that a person, or class of person, has the intention to reside in New Zealand for 90 days or more.

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper amends the COVID-19 Public Health Response Amendment Bill to prohibit regulations being made to exempt people, or groups of people, from self-isolation charges on the basis that they are prepared to stay in New Zealand long term or for a period of 90 days or more.
