Royal Warrant

Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God Queen of New Zealand and Her Other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, to all to whom these Presents shall come,

Greeting!

Whereas We are desirous of recognising the service, performance, conduct, and contribution to New Zealand by members of the New Zealand Customs Service:

We do by these Presents for Us, Our Heirs and Successors, institute and create a new Medal.

1 Designation

  • (1) There shall be a Medal designated “The New Zealand Customs Service Medal”.

    (2) There shall also be a Clasp to the Medal.

2 Award

  • The Medal, and any Clasps to the Medal, shall be awarded in accordance with Regulations made by the Governor-General of New Zealand, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister or a Minister of the Crown acting for the Prime Minister.

3 Description of Medal

  • The Medal shall be made of silver and be circular in shape, 36 mm in diameter, and shall bear,—

    • (a) on the obverse, a representation of the effigy of the Sovereign; and

    • (b) on the reverse, a representation of the Badge of the New Zealand Customs Service.

4 Description of Clasp

  • The Clasp to the Medal shall be of silver, oblong in shape, and bear a Royal Crown in the centre.

5 Ribbon

  • (1) The Medal shall be worn from the left breast suspended from a ribbon, 32 mm in width, of 5 stripes of dark blue, yellow, light blue, yellow, and dark blue.

    (2) When the ribbon is worn alone, a small silver rosette may be worn on the ribbon for each Clasp awarded.

6 Miniatures

  • Reproductions in miniature of the Medal and Clasps to the Medal, which may be worn on certain occasions by those to whom the Medal and Clasps are awarded, shall not exceed one half the size of the full-size Medal and Clasp.

7 Engraving of Medal

  • The name of the recipient shall be engraved on the rim of the Medal.

8 Register of recipients

  • The names of all those persons who receive the Medal and any Clasps to the Medal shall be recorded in a register kept by the Comptroller of Customs or a person appointed by the Comptroller of Customs.

9 Order of wear

  • It shall be competent for Us, Our Heirs and Successors, to determine from time to time the order of wear of The New Zealand Customs Service Medal in relation to the insignia of Orders, Decorations, and Medals that have been or may be conferred in Our Realm of New Zealand.

10 Annulment

  • We reserve to Ourself, Our Heirs and Successors, full power of annulling, altering, abrogating, augmenting, interpreting, or dispensing with this Our Royal Warrant, or any part thereof, by a notification under Our Sign Manual.
